Peter Marmerstein, 2010 Bernard L. Savage Community Service Award Winner

Richmond, VA, April 3, 2010 – Peter Marmerstein, CEO of CJW Medical Center’s Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals, was announced as the winner of the 2010 Bernard L. Savage Community Service Award and will be honored at a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, April 20 at Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Presented by The Chesterfield Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber, the award recognizes an individual who selflessly gives time, talent, and other resources to help one or more individuals or organizations in Chesterfield County.

Peter Marmerstein, F.A.C.H.E, CEO of CJW Medical Center, hails from New York where he received an M.P.A. degree in health care administration from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Long Island University. He has more than 30 years of healthcare experience and has held executive management positions at hospitals in California, Texas and New York. His most recent position, prior to coming to CJW Medical Center, was in Florida where he was the CEO of St. Mary’s Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Advanced Member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Mr. Marmerstein has a record of participation in both community and professional services organizations. As the CEO of CJW Medical Center, he serves on the boards of John Tyler Community College Foundation, Richmond CenterStage, Johns Cancer Foundation and the Virginia Chapter of the American Heart Association. He is also a member of the Medicaid Reform Task Force and the Midlothian Rotary Club. Mr. Marmerstein has two adult sons and lives in Midlothian with his wife, Jodi.

About the Bernard L. Savage Community Service Award:
The Bernard L. Savage Award recognizes an individual for selflessly giving time, talent or other resources to promote and enhance the quality of life in Chesterfield County. In 1997, the award was first presented to Mr. Savage, who spent 20 years as a real estate broker before establishing Savage & Company Realtors in 1976.

Past recipients include: Deborah J. Johnston, R.N. (2009), Quenton Lee (2008), Alice Clark (2007), Patricia Clark (2006), Jay Lafler (2005), The Honorable John Watkins (2004), John Cogbill, III (2003).
